New zebra crossing outside South Merton train station

Cannon Hill

Plans have been initiated to install a zebra crossing near the busy junction of Martin Way and Mostyn Gardens outside the South Merton train station, replacing the current traffic island.

A concerned local resident of Cannon Hill raised the public safety issue by reaching out to local MP member, Siobhain McDonagh while attending one of her local community coffee mornings. They expressed concern for childrens safety while commuting to school as well as commuters crossing the island to get to the station.

Cllr Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council sent out safety surveys and the new zebra crossing will be installed in the autumn; he has promised that this busy junction will be a lot safer. Ross and Siobhain are very appreciative of the residents for showing up to the coffee mornings to ensure safe policies and practices are initiated.

In the upcoming weeks Siobhain McDonagh will be hosting coffee mornings in Cannon Hill, in an effort to get in touch with everyone this autumn. Confirmation on dates and venue will be released once plans are finalised. Siobhain McDonagh looks forward to seeing all of residents while sharing ideas on ways Cannon Hill can reach its full potential.
