Stanford Primary School update

Nationally, after a sustained period of increased demand for primary school places, pupil numbers are now starting to decline; and we are seeing that here in Merton. Due to a reduction of school age children in the area and the expansion of a neighbouring primary school in Lambeth, the academy that ran Stanford Primary School applied to the then Secretary of State for Education to close the school.

Stanford Primary School closed in the Summer of 2024 and children attending the school have been found alternative local school places. Thanks to over 98% of Merton’s schools being Good or Outstanding, the children at Stanford could continue their education at a great local school.

With the school site closing and returning to Merton Council, options are now being considered for the future use of the site, which is most likely to be much needed housing. As your local Labour Action Team, we will keep you updated as plans develop.
