Siobhain meets with Road Safety Minister Lilian Greenwood to discuss Lillie’s Law

Mitcham & Morden

In 2021 our community was rocked by the tragic death of Lillie Clack, who was fatally injured on Christmas Day by a drunk driver at just 21 years old. Since her death, Lillie’s mum Debbie and auntie Donna have campaigned tirelessly for a law change to prevent drunk drivers from taking to the roads.

Lillie’s killer was allowed to drive for over a year following her death, leading Debbie and Donna to push for the creation of ‘Lillie’s Law’ – a mandatory confiscation of driving licenses on the spot for those found to have caused an accident under the influence of drink or drugs.

The way the community came together to support Lillie’s family following her death really highlights the impact she had across Merton. Over 40,000 people signed a petition launched by Debbie calling for Lillie’s Law to be implemented. Following their petition, the Minister for Road Safety agreed to meet with me, along with Debbie and Donna, to discuss Lillie’s Law. The Minister supported our suggestions and will take them into consideration during her department’s upcoming road safety review.
