Second tower plans rejected in Colliers Wood thanks to Labour Council

Colliers Wood

We are delighted to say that Merton Council has overwhelmingly rejected Criterion’s plans to build two new towers (26 storeys and 16 storeys) next to the current one in Colliers Wood.

In total, the planning team have listed 14 reasons for refusal, including a complete lack of consideration for any sort of flooding mitigation, concerns around wind tunnelling affects at the site, lack of active travel support, design issues of the towers themselves and the small interior space of the flats inside. Whilst we agree more housing is needed, this was clearly not an acceptable proposal.

It is likely Criterion, who own the site, will try to appeal this but with so many reasons for rejection, Merton Council has strong grounds to fight this.

This is a brilliant win for the community. We want to say thanks to all the residents who have made their voices heard and written to us. This is something your Labour councillors have been fighting against for years and I’m delighted our council officers have agreed with us all, as did the Greater London Authority who agreed not to intervene in our decision.
