Councillors continue the fight against rogue landlords
Housing is the bedrock of our community and residents in Graveney should be able to have a decent place to call home. That is why your Labour Graveney Councillors are delighted that their campaign for a selective landlord licensing scheme in our ward will be coming into place in September 2023.
We have worked with Merton Council to make this happen and our residents will soon be able to hold rogue landlords to account. Labour-run Merton Council will now ensure that all landlords here in Graveney will be required to obtain a licence to continue renting out their property. Funding has been secured for a total of nine officers who will carry out property inspections to ensure that landlords uphold a good standard for their tenants. Our area has the highest number of Houses of Multiple Occupancies (HMOs), and we understand the impact this has on our community.
